We’ve been overrun with family visitors for the last two weekends, so our apologies for the dearth of posts – I’m on my way out the door right now, but I wanted to pop over and say GO NATS!

aspic on the brain

I realize I’m jeopardizing future dinner invitations by saying this, but I’m oddly fascinated by aspic right now.

aspic!

OK, the above isn’t actually an aspic jelly – but it is a jello salad in a mold, which falls into the same category as far as I’m concerned. I spent a bunch of time last weekend reading my 1943 edition of the Joy of Cooking, which was full of such wonders. I don’t know if I’ll ever bring my aspic dream to fruition – but good lord, they’re weird, and I’m enjoying looking at pictures of them and imagining how anyone found them palatable.

Just like in With Honors (kind of)

There’s an article in the GW Hatchet today that reports that a student has been living in the library for basically the last month after getting kicked out of University housing for financial reasons.  I think it’s most interesting that we AT THE LIBRARY are just hearing about this now!  We’re wondering if this will be addressed – not that those of us who leave at 5 can really do much about a student who comes back and sleeps on our couches in the middle of the night – or if it will be ignored.

Also, who knew that parts of With Honors were filmed in Champaign!

Two Things Of Note

1. I had lunch with my dear friend Oday yesterday! He had a long layover at Reagan, so he took the Metro into the city and we walked over to Georgetown for a bit. I haven’t seen him since his last visit to Champaign in the summer of 2005, so it was fantastic to catch up.

2. I just realized that I’ve finally stopped calling my little brother by his baby nickname. He’s 12.

My parents and Eric (formerly: Coo) will be in town for the holiday weekend. I’m not sure what we’re going to do other than dye Easter eggs, but it will be nice to have them around for a few days.

Music news!

I forgot to mention that my friend and former coworker Garret has released his first album! He’s recording under the name Tomorrow is Already Here, and his album is available on CDBaby and through the iTunes store. Go Garret!

15 minutes

So on Friday, Keem sent around a post from Mental Floss requesting pictures of weird or nerdy animal photos.  Oddly enough, we have them in spades.  I quickly put together a humorous email containing shots of Basil, Mina, and Sid in action, and then promptly forgot about it…until today.

Imagine my surprise and delight that not one but TWO photos of Basil are included in today’s Pictures from our Readers! post.
