Things I Love Thursday #5

  1. I seriously lose my shit at least once a day over Damn You Auto Correct!
  2. This week’s On the Media, which may have been the most fun On the Media yet.  I would like to specifically draw your attention to these two segments, the latter of which led me to Zero Views, another recent obsession:
  3. I’m in pretty good shape with both holiday shopping and crafting – most of the remaining purchases are necessarily last minute, and most of the remaining crafting could slide into January if necessary.
  4. I won free Chipotle lunch for my entire office (or for up to 30 people) by dropping a calling card – they’re not really business cards if they don’t come from your employer, right? – in a drawing last week.
  5. As a result, I keep thinking of this:
  6. M I Fivvvvvvve. What will happen to Ruth? If Ros has that thing implanted behind her ear, does that mean they can hear her in the bathroom? Will I blow through the remaining seasons by the end of the year?
  7. Getting caught up on Fringe.  I heart Walter Bishop and I hate fake Olivia.
  8. Oh so finally done with this issue of Vanity Fair, which inexplicably took me nearly an entire month to read.

Things I Love Thursday #4

  • The Naked and FamousPassive Me, Aggressive You – so into this album right now!
  • Also The Morning BendersBig Echo, which is sort of Bonnaroo-y but generally good background music for GTD.
  • 20 minutes on the fluid trainer on Sunday resulted in jelly legs and two days of soreness.  These are good things.
  • The THIRD Kindle case I knit and felted actually quite close to perfect.  One more go and I think I’ll be able to share the pattern, which I modified from a laptop case I found on Ravelry.
  • Kitsune Udon from Tomukun for dinner last night with Juli and Dave.  Sweet and savory, fragrant and filling.  I wish Tomukun were closer to my office so that I could get there more often than every 4-5 months.
  • A brief respite from the onset of winter weather means I was able to run! in shorts! yesterday.  And my knee cooperated!
  • FINALLY ALMOST DONE with the “holiday” knitting for Shane’s non-holiday family.  The last project will be out the door tonight, and then I can tackle my actual holiday knitting.

Things I Love Thursday #3

  • Getting dressed with the lights on! Shane’s out of town, so I don’t have to worry about disturbing him.
  • Related: listening to NPR while getting ready for work.
  • 3 dishes out of one sweet potato!  Baked for dinner last night, leftovers for lunch today, and the remainder for sweet potato biscuits tonight or tomorrow.
  • MI-5.  I wasn’t sold on the first episode, but the second hooked me.
  • The Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop, which is full of all kinds of randomness.
  • Attempting to bring order to the chaos of our basement. I don’t know if it’s working, but I’m trying.

Things I Love Thursday #2

  • Rediscovering how much I love the Hackers soundtrack. Hackers 2 ain’t so bad either. Please note that while there are two soundtracks, there was only one movie, and that’s probably for the best.
  • My second book for 12 Books, 12 Months: EB White’s The Points of My Compass which, while slow in parts, was so, so worth the read. Review forthcoming.
  • I was pretty into the warm weather we were having, but the temperatures are back to normal October blusteries.  On the up side, now I can make the soup I wanted to eat earlier in the week but couldn’t bear on 70 degree evenings!
  • Thanksgiving travel plans falling into place.
  • The fact that people are actually responding to the survey on the website.  Hooray for usable data!
  • Looking at sweaters on the internet. I need better layering options, and I’m not finding ’em in my price range.
  • This quote from Christopher Hitchens: “Because so much of life to me has been about prolonging the moment. Keeping the argument going for another stage, keeping the dinner party alive for another hour. There’s no question that it’s an enhancing thing and that’s the life I’ve led for a long time. I can’t imagine what it would have been like otherwise.”

Things I Love Thursday #1

a la Julie Mack

  • The NPR New App for Android – I’ve been a mass transit or bike or walking commuter for 5 years, and for 5 years I’ve missed NPR on the commute. NO LONGER!
  • Winter veg: first successful batch of sweet potato fries last night, Suz’s cauliflower soup, sweet and spicy butternut squash soup for lunch.
  • Sweater and kneesock weather make #argylethursday a no brainer:

    Double #argylethursday

  • First email addressed to Professor Beers
  • Ginger tea (which I could really use right now)
  • Filling out my Goodreads with my old reading lists and scattered reviews – my as I think of it project for the last week or two
  • Reading somewhat trashy historical fiction in the bathtub

What are you into this week?
